A 50th birthday means it’s time for one huge celebration. Chevrolet is ringing in the 50th year of Camaro by debuting a brand new Chevrolet race car at this year’s NASCAR XFINITY SeriesTM.
The 2017 Camaro SS will serve as the Chevrolet model for race cars in this year’s NASCAR season. Read on to learn what you need to know about this new Chevy before the kickoff of the racing season in February.
Fast and Furious: The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS
The 2017 Camaro SS marks the 6th generation of Camaro. The car made its first appearance last June 2016, at the Daytona International Speedway, but won’t make it’s official racing debut until February 2017.
The 2017 Camaro SS will take its first official laps next month at the NASCAR XFINITY series kickoff race in Daytona, Florida. This 6th-generation Camaro will join the 5th-generation Camaro in NASCAR history — the 5th generation competed in the 2013 NASCAR XFINITY series.
The new Camaro features a refined shape, designed based on a “conventional fluid dynamics analysis, as well as traditional full- and reduced-scale wind-tunnel development,” according to Chevrolet’s official press release.
Chevrolet has compiled a total of 408 NASCAR XFINITY wins since 1982, and the Chevrolet Camaro has played a huge role in securing these victories. We’re excited to see how this year’s Camaro SS fairs on the track.
